  1. Step One: Find out the age of your home. If you are attempting an Orlando Popcorn Removal, you must be aware of potential asbestos contamination. If your house or condo was built in the year 1978, you will need to have a sample of your popcorn texture tested by a third party lab. There are several companies here in town that offer that type of service. If you do test positive, we strongly suggest that you don’t attempt the removal yourself. Please seek the advice of a professional.

  2. Step Two: Remove all of your decorations, nick knacks, small furniture, lamps, etc. Leave only the bigger items and beds. This also promotes a good spring clean. Using two inch masking tape, run your tape line along the edge of the wall where it meets the ceiling. Press down and secure only the top half of the tape, leaving the bottom half open. Once you have the house perimeter taped, adhere the top edges of your wall plastic (12x400in) to the bottom edge of your tape and secure. Start and finish at the middle of the door or opening to the room. Don’t plastic the room in sections. Use one continual piece for each room. Don’t drape the plastic down to the floor until your are ready to mist and the AC is turned off

  3. Step Three: Run the same kind of tape using the same technique as above along the perimeter of the floor and around the bigger items left in the house. Even if you are replacing the floors and your house is totally empty, we still recommend that you cover the floors with a three mil plastic. It makes clean up so much faster and will keep your DIY project on schedule. Be sure to leave a little extra room when cutting the plastic. This assures it will not pull away from the tape during the Popcorn Removal process. Secure your plastic to the tape in the same way you secured it when hanging the wall plastic.

  4. Step Four: Once you have the house contained with plastic, begin removing ceiling vents, dropping fixture caps (or remove fixture all together) and remove all fan blades. Tape around the electrical box and plastic any remaining fan motors, fixtures and smoke alarms. If you happen to have a sprinkler system, research the proper method to cover them securely and safely. At this point your whole house should be prepped and ready to go. Now is the time to turn the AC off and drape the wall plastic. This prevents the plastic from blowing everywhere while you are working or getting sucked into any returns and causing AC damage.
